Devi Karumaariamman Destitute Home
Established in 1972 with special recognition from the Tamilnadu government, this school, operated by the Tamilnadu Social Welfare Department, provided education for approximately 45 years. Sadly, in 2022, it was forced to close due to the registration requirements of the Juvenile Justice Act 2015. Land issues and a lack of proper documentation led to its temporary closure.
With approval from the District Child Welfare Committee, the school can potentially resume its operations. Designed to accommodate around 200 students, the school primarily served the Narikuravar, Adhidravidar, and Irular communities. It was specifically built to cater to the educational needs of Irular and scheduled tribes students, offering them a place to stay and study. Despite its closure, the hope remains that the school will reopen its doors and continue its mission of providing education to underprivileged communities soon.
